The Earth Grief Project invites groups working towards cultural and ecological transformation to explore the tending of collective grief. The evening begins with a performance of Earth Grief: A Clown’s Ritual for Reconnection, the playful journey of a clown encountering climate crisis while on a mission to save a tree. Beginning the evening with a clown show gently eases us into the conversation about grief, bringing humor and imagination to a subject that is taboo in dominant culture. The performance is followed by a workshop on Tending Earth Grief, which will engage our imaginations about the ways that people and communities can create “Relational Ecosystems” to support collective grieving.
Earth Grief: A Clown’s Ritual for Reconnection
An ecologically-minded clown is on a mission to save a tree. But what with all the big things that are melting and that worrying climate heating thing, this simple undertaking transforms into an epic search for the roots of planetary crisis. A philosophically eccentric “wondering” of what it means to be human in a time of ecological unravelling, Earth Grief playfully investigates the emotional frozenness of a dominant culture no longer in reciprocal relationship with earth. The performance creates a “ritual for reconnection,” honoring the collective grief we have inherited from our ancestors and expanding our ecological imagination of what it means to belong.
Tending Earth Grief WorkshopFind your agency by creating “relational ecosystems” for the tending of Earth Grief in both personal and community contexts. During the workshop we will learn Francis Weller’s Five Gates of Grief and identify the gates of grief that are most alive for each of us. We will draw on the collective intelligence of the group to gather embodied practices for transforming Earth Grief into creative expression and nourishment for the sacred. Through deep listening and metaphor, we will map out our personal longings for “relational ecosystems” to support our grieving. We will then weave these personal maps into a collective ecosystem of support for the tending of Earth Grief.Exchange is $25 and this is the link for payment:https://www.facebook.com/TransitionTownMedia/photos/gm.337792396752630/1837100013017884/?type=3
