Dear Friends and Community,
How are you doing? It is how I begin most classes I offer because it is how I begin and end each day. I feel it is important to take care of ourselves like that. To assess where we are with ourselves,with all that is going on in our life. We all move along so fast in our responsibilities that we often overlook, or ignore, or deny, how we are doing with our particular life load. Some think it does not matter how we are doing, or how we feel about how we are doing, but it does matter, because we each matter. Everyone matters.
I feel many of us have experienced a big shift in our energy over the last few weeks, and might feel a whole lot better about how things are looking for our country. Personally, I feel like we have been given some space to move around in, to experience hope in, to feel joy in, to feel relief in. For me, this shift and this hopefulness for what is possible, has allowed me to feel lighter in my heart about so many other things that mostly involve people. Not just the ones I love and know, but for all people. Why? Because now a contrast is more visible to far more who couldn’t discern it was there all along. Spirit is always on the move for us, giving us every opportunity to see what needs to be seen.

When There Is Love…
And I do not use the word Spirit lightly. Spirit invites us every day to participate in our life in a sacred manner. To first be concerned with ourselves, to love ourselves in such a way that it will be reflected in all we do to meet the responsibilities of our life and in loving those in our life. Not everyone will love where they are in life, but to love oneself, to know oneself, is to have a leg up on the sacred success of where that love will lead, and how it feels to have it.
Love is answering the call to participate with the divine. Before love there is a gratitude for life. Within the gratitude there is trust. And with trust there is love. And that love opens the floodgates of Spirit, where the contrast becomes most visible. How we think of each other. How we treat each other. What we hope to see for each other. What we will do for each other and not to each other.
Spirit is the heart of us. Love is Spirit. Out of love is joy and peace, perseverance, kindness, goodness, faith, compassion, and self-control. These are the fruits of the spirit listed in the bible at Galatians 5:22 and 23. “Against such thinks there is no law”, is how it ends.
When they are part of who we are they are more easily recognized in others. Politics may be the last place we think we will find them. But when one has done the work of love in themselves, they will bring who they are to what they do. It is rare to see this level of love and joy in politics. and sadly some will miss it, not see it, ignore and deny it. Even call it other things. As has been done before. That is our choice to do.
It is early still and there are no certainties as to how things will turn out. My hope is for spirit to to rise up in our hearts so we can begin again, to move further down the path of caring for each other in a way that is as sacred as we are.
As with all things it begins with who we are. With how we feel. With how we are doing. With loving ourselves. Knowing what that means and what it looks like in our life, in and around all of our responsibilities, hopes and dreams, and gravitating towards all the possibilities that are participating in the same spirit to bring it as close as we can get to it, for all of us.
Tim Walz, the VP pick, said something I really liked. He said, “I might be speaking to the choir, but it is time for the choir to sing”.
