Dear Friends and Community,
I am never quite sure of the images I paint as to who they are. I more know how they feel,they tell a story of how I felt painting them. And this one, who I did not name,and one I did some time ago,felt full and filled with all the right things in the moment for this email. I usually never have a clue as to what will appear, I just start with color and let it happen. And strangely, this week, with all the crazy going on in our country, and with the unmanageable, undisciplined, tantrum inclined toddler president, making a fool of himself ever more so, dragging our country along with him, and threatening genocide, I landed here. I felt protected by meaning and yes, even peace.
This thought of the collapse of meaning had arisen earlier, I guess, when the no war war was started. I am astonished more than I should be at the indifference to constitutional procedure and protocol by the pathetic sycophants around him when it comes to anything, but especially war, and especially war in the Middle East. It seems they will let the toddler do anything. Didn’t we all learn how to be better than this? To know what better meant? Weren’t we all familiar with the bully in the schoolyard? Is this not just plain sickening to us all?
I feel like it is. I feel like it has to land in everyone’s gut as shameful and reprehensible. And then what happens? Then there is collapse of meaning. More and more are coming around. I guess it had to get this bad for some to see how bad it always was. This was the eventuality. He didn’t change or get worse, this was always who he was. But here again, I don’t want this to be about him. I want this to be about us, about you and me, seeing our way through this time, held together and no collapsing despite what is falling apart.

I am waiting a few things out on the schedule due to my present health concerns, namely what comes next, and the the time I will need to heal, as I know I am looking at some surgery. I look forward to addressing women’s health and the courage in advocating for oneself. I am in that process and appalled by the lack of new ways to care for women of all ages, as we have seen, and especially us crones. We are a sacred and holy presence on this earth and if we do not try to preserve ourselves in all the ways that affect our being here in our power we leave it to the patriarchy to disappear us in subtle ways that we ourselves are unaware of. If we hold the “within” we will have the “without”.
So, I thank you for your patience.
The Collapse of Meaning…
We all can understand the idea of collapse. When something doesn’t hold its form. When what connects us all to an ideal, breaks. When something made to hold strong, buttressed by equally strong alloys, completely fails. And in this way, so much has collapsed,, and in that so much, also so many.
Everything is connected. The collapse of meaning start with us, with what we see, understand, feel, and allow or make excuses for. When we are unsure of our purpose, or any purpose. Or when our life has little meaning, or we feel life is meaningless. Or when we begin to think that truth and honesty don’t matter, and people in power can lie with no consequence. Meaning collapses when we are unsure of what integrity means and requires, what it looks like and what is does. Or we are unsure of what kindness means, or what love can accomplish. Or when we think virtue and humility are weaknesses rather than strengths. Meaning has collapsed when there is no beauty to behold. No joy, only strife, separation and bluster. When there is no order, and only chaos. When there is only greed and avarice, and no generosity,while more and more is being taken away. And it is not just words, it is the quality of them, they are not empty, but rather full of meaning.
Meaning collapses when we trust blindly, or leave no room for doubt. We have to be both curious and responsible. We have to care when a president threatens genocide against a people and culture.That cannot be unsaid, nor unheard. Our hair does not need to be on fire, but neither do we forget how dangerously unstable a person he is. We need not rant,only remember to do what we can do, when it is time to do it. We stay alert, discerning vital truths to look for, hold on to, and work from. We remain at peace and do not collapse. And we do not return again there to wink and nod. We know better so we do better. We have no assurance that things will hold, that our democracy will survive. But when meaning and purpose survive in us, when we do not collapse under the weight of things that can, instead we emerge better, stronger, with grace and soul awareness. Do we really want the world that is being offered from this collapsing table?
I close my eyes and imagine a different world. I open them and do what I can to make it so.
