Dear Friends and Community,
It is still the 24th as I begin. It is my birthday and as birthdays go, it was different this year with Nick still recovering, and it was in many ways the same. I begin the day, as with many others, with a word of gratitude for another day, and on this day, I am thankful for my life.
And I spent the long morning into the afternoon remembering.
The story will continue down the page after the weeks schedule and upcoming events.

I Remember…
I remembered being 4, and sitting in the back seat of my dads new car. I remember the smell and the color, a bronzy copper that I associate with my dad to this day. He was taking me to visit with his family, my aunts and uncles, in Washington DC. It was just him and I, not sure why. I do not remember the visit so much, just the ride.
It might have been that same year in the summer, I would have been 5, I remember the family trip to Florida, in that new car. We stopped and took pictures along the way,one in front of a Coppertone bill board. I remember on that trip, a young boy named Joey, that I sat under a coconut tree with almost every day. So sweet a memory. I remember feeling love.
I remember being 8, and feeling awkward. I remember feeling left out. I think it might have been the start of telling crazy stories that just were not true. You can only tell them for so long. I remember being 10. It was a big year, the Beatles and JFK…1963. I bit a bully in the school yard that year, she would not let certain people drink from the school yard water fountain. She was a lot bigger than me and I remember not caring about that. I told her the water was for everyone and the fight began and then I bit her. I got in some trouble for that, and my mom took me to her house to apologize. I did. We became friends and the water fountain was open to everyone.
I remember loving my parents, and my sister Angelina, who was Down Syndrome. I remember rites of passage, and indiscretions. I remember falling in love while I was still so young, being a hippie, writing tons of contemplative poetry, and getting married all before I was 20. I never went to collage. I remember feeling unsettled.
My dad passed when I was 20, I had 2 daughters, changed my religion, became deeply dedicated and a student of religion and forms of worship, lost touch with the world and was no longer feeling much like a hippie. My husband got sick and passed away. I was 45. I remember a depth of sadness, and feeling trapped. I remember a deep need for truth.
My studies opened my heart and I left religion to be free. Nick, who was a best friend to my husband, showed up and I fell in love again. One daughter was married. My mom and sister passed away. I did peace studies and continued religious and mystical studies. I never tire of them. The expansive view of truth anchors me. We opened businesses, welcomed another son-in law, and have 3 grandchildren.
In between the lines and events are the things that went right and the things that didn’t. There were the challenges, sorrows and joys of life. There were the things that did damage and the forgiveness that allows one to keep moving forward with love. Less than that just don’t work.
I turned 72 today, well yesterday, and feel so thankful for the fullness I feel. Just an ordinary life with an extraordinary view of wonder and awe. I have studied my way to my soul. My heart opened to the wisdom between the many words, sentences, paragraphs and books. Everything that appears as different and separate is just an illusion. It is all…All, just One Thing appearing as many.
Life is magnificent. We are made to know it, and feel it, and live it. We are made to remember more than just our life here. Remembering our eternity informs us of our souls purpose for being here on this earth. We have a divine work as well as an earth body life. When these two meet, you know. It doesn’t change what is not under our control to change, it changes what can be changed, it transforms us, transcends the lower to the higher, where all things meet as the One Thing, that we once imagined as separate.
At 72, I am most thankful for my life. I wish the same for all beings.
Peace and blessings,
Denise Yocco
