    Milestones…
We have just passed the year mark of when we all became aware that covid 19 had reached pandemic status. None of us really knew what that would mean for us, but we learned quickly, and very abruptly that our lives, and how we lived them, like a rug, was pulled out from under us. How will we do this, I remember thinking.
Closed down and shut in. Children at home, all the time. Parents becoming teachers, along with work coming at home, if you were lucky. Separated from the ones we were used to seeing and holding. Watching the numbers rise of both cases and deaths, we came to know and use the term Existential crisis. There has been more loss than can be estimated, and that does not even include the enormous toll of lost souls and the magnitude of grief that has yet to be realized, globally, collectively. Our world, our country, our communities, our families, will have to find ways to heal. Everyone has suffered some loss. Some greater than others. But suffering cannot be measured.

Our compassion and respect for each soul must be foremost in our hearts if we are to consider where each of us were taken during this time, or what was taken from us, what we learned or unlearned, what we gave up, or what we gave into, what was broken and fell apart, or what time allowed us to put back together, this and more is part of this time, for each and every one of us.

Some people got real rich and some real poor. Some stayed healthy while some got sick and others passed. This was and remains Existential…and event touching all of humanity…a milestone. Birthdays missed and some never to be celebrated again. Mourning and grief never closed. Open broken hearts waiting to be healed.

Some made good use of the time, found the ground under their feet, or even wings to fly, and they feel bad to say so. I may have been a bit of all of the above and then this too. I did not lose anyone to covid, but there were those that were lost, some to suicide. I ran the  gamut of lows and highs, but by grace was able to find a sliver of light to guide me to the next thing. That was choice I made and we all have. We had our covid scares, and quarantines. We missed our loved ones. All this we can each relate to, to a greater or lesser degree. Love is the best thing we have to offer each other. Never assume the degree of suffering one has suffered. First, it does not matter, and no one really knows but the One.

This is not over yet, and maybe we have reached the most crucial spot in all of this…to not let our guard down. To keep up the protocols for safety and not take an unnecessary risk. We are so close. We are so tired of it all too! But we will get there. Those not vaccinated will get vaccinated. We will be with our families again soon enough. The masks one day will come off. It all might not be tomorrow, but the train is on the track, delivering each day, something.

And this was just covid. We know there was more, so much more.

More young people than anyone else are out shopping. I am thankful to be able to see so many of them. It has been good to be around them because they are positive and hopeful, even though many feel dismayed and disappointed. They cling to each other and cheer each other on. We adults need to do more of that for each other too. Staying positive is the game to be playing. Positive people are just happy. And they offer their joy and happiness to everyone. It is delightful and it is contagious. We can think from the end and manifest what we hope to have, or see next. The sky is the limits. The sky is limitless…and comes in layers. Trust your hope and get imaginative. Pray big, trust big! It is all up for grabs!

    With love and blessings,
    Denise Yocco
