Good Grief ~ What We Know That’s True
Offered by Denise Yocco
I had called this originally “What Is True”. After thinking into it I realized I needed to change it . There is so much that we do not know about those now on the other side of this life. We say death, and dead, and gone and passed. And while every word holds some truth, they also tell only one part of the story. The part we believe we know. For those that attend this workshop/circle event, I will share, not only the most obvious things that are true about our losses, but also some things that perhaps you have not thought of, perhaps never realized, or imagined. We will talk about the things we usually talk about in a space like this, and we will open up a new space in your grieving container to hold something new.
I will have a variety of tools for us to work with . Many things I will have set out for you to choose what best resonates with you in the moment. I also use Feelings and Needs cards that allow you to narrow your thoughts and feelings.
Please feel you are welcome to bring a photo , or something you feel important and relevant to your attending this event. Tears are welcome in this space too.
Please preregister, as it is very helpful to me in preparing.
How This Started:
This is a circle setting event to commune around grief. Naming it “Good Grief” is not to dismiss the impact in and on our life, or to minimize the events in our life that have left us in grief. It is an attempt to make the time we spend in grief and in grieving, good. Good for us, and good for those we have lost. It is a deep honoring of the process of grieving and the relationships that end on the physical level when we lose those we love. I started this class and called it NOAH, for Nectar Of Awakened Hearts, after a beloved employee took his life. That was in December of 2017. I have had to do much work around the sorrow of that loss and others like that. I have lost parents, and siblings and a beloved husband. So grief has become a constant companion and friend. At some point we must make peace with it, or we miss what our life is here. I know I am not alone. I feel I have more to offer since 2017 , when I was deep in the loss of Noah.
I do know that there is bad grief, and I know that there are many who are suffering in it. I am hoping that through this circle there can be real and steady comfort found. This circle is for anyone who feels they would like to be managing their loss and grief in a more healthy way in mind, body and spirit.
In this circle event we will deep listen to all who attend. To allow for each persons story to be told. We will each be there as a support to each other. This will be the start of moving into, what I am calling “good grief”, as opposed to bad grief. There will be a variety of ways that will be used to allow us to identify what we feel, where we feel it, and how we want o proceed to feeling balance in our life, even though we grieve. I will share some thoughts that have helped me to appreciate the value of our grief, and the value of our life here that begs us to live with happiness in each breath. If you are looking for that sort of balance, I hope you find you way to being in this circle.
