Holding the String That Turns the Beads
Welcoming any who missed last week.
Offered by Denise Yocco
Four consecutive Tuesdays ; 2/25th, 3/3, 3/10, 3/17
For the seekers among us, I am feeling called and guided to offer this topic. As I have in many other situations referred to this phrase, and offered its very penetrating wisdom, I realize that there is so much more to share. Many do know of Guru Nanak Dev, and far too many do not. Alive in the 1400’s, the wisdom and love he offered in regards to where we establish our alliances in our life and in our world, and how our choices impact us, is so deeply missing from our culture, our conversations, even from our religions. I simply wish to open the door to more of him.
By way of his sutra’s, called Japuji-Saheb, which were his songs to the Beloved, in this study we will look at just four of them. The thought is to open our ears to hearing something new, and though very ancient, comes to us like a stream of water for our thirsty souls.
How can our life be made to feel so blessed, while we suffer through all that causes us so much distress? My aim, through this study, will be to offer that and have you know that it is possible. How in this climate of separation, and an avalanche of mistrust and lies, how are we to see the One in all? Nanak allows us to know.
What I feel certain you will learn on a deeper level:
How to understand Existence, and benefit from the understanding.
How to view religiousness vs religion, and how devotion shows up in our life.
The sound and resonance of OM, and our connection to it.
The importance of both the string and the beads.
How we are one, and what the single thing is that makes that so.
Why we should hold the string, and not the beads.
And so much more…
This is a big jump for me in may ways, as I will make my myself very vulnerable in opening my heart wide to offer what I so love, as will those who may choose to hear and listen. We all, so need wisdom at this time, and at all times. We have learned many things, we have gained and and we have lost. All that we have gathered has not been able to reconcile our shattered dreams and illusions, nor allow our hearts to open more to what is unseen and unknowable. That is the case for most of us, I know not all.
Guru Nanak Dev will offer a healing balm to not only soothe us, but to allow us to trust where we are, in our life, and in our time, by grabbing hold of the string that turns the beads. And in doing so we begin to open our heart to all that Existence is, all that the One is, to accept all that is there for us to so deeply learn from.
In this class we will deep listen, we will have discussion, and we will have meditation. I will be using commentary on Guru Nanak Dev from Osho, Kabir, and the Adi Granth.
When we gave up religion, as many have, we threw away the bath water, in doing so our religiousness was also discarded. The Baby, the Life and Essence in all religion, was also thrown away. I am being called and guided to offer what I see as lost , so that we can be found.
