Day of the Dead ~ An Alter of Relationship
Offered by Susan Palmer
Susan Palmer grew up cradled by Mexican culture and has traveled extensively in Mexico and Peru, the twin homes of the Day of the Dead celebrations. She, like everyone, yearns for connection with those who’ve gone on. Her belief in the essential oneness of the sacred and profane has led her to study the physical and cultural backgrounds of the Pre-Columbian precursors of the phenomenon as one means among many to do so. On November 2, the last night of the return of the dead, she will lead the group in understanding and relating the rich fabric of the Mexican experience to one’s own spiritual journey. Through discussion, journaling and the creation of a miniature altar we will welcome, perhaps find resolution with, and release those who’ve died.
To bring:
a photograph or small memento, hopefully both, of someone you wish to embrace who has died
a VERY SMALL food offering–for instance, for my dad, a bottle of beer and hot sauce
a journal if you wish; paper and pencils will also be provided
the idea of a place in your home where you can dedicate an annual altar to los difuntos, no matter how small.
